#16: Dave Hause

1. Frightened Rabbit  – Pedestrian Verse
The lyrics on this record blew me away upon first listen, I love the entire record start to finish, and Oil Slick is probably my favorite song.  I love how it sounds like they had all the songs together, remixed the record and then played the deconstructed parts on live instruments. Stunning album.
2. Jason Isbell –  Southeastern
I was texting back and forth with Craig Finn of the Hold Steady regarding this record, and he said it best: „This is a career record.“  It’s so true, Isbell is one of the best American singer songwriters going, and this is his most complete, compelling and hopeful album. Incredible.
3 . The National –  Trouble Will Find Me
As summer is drawing to a close here in America, this record is pulling me in more and more. Dark, amazingly orchestrated and complex.  I think the drummer plays some of the most interesting stuff, always a cool, left of center approach to rock drumming. „I Need My Girl“ is a great song.
4. Patty Griffin – American Kid
Patty can do no wrong. Her first set of songs in awhile, and she never disappoints. The voice of an angel, lyrics that stick to your ribs and stripped down production that serves the songs. Having Robert Plant sing on a few sure doesn’t hurt either.
5. Kanye West – Yeezus

Kanye’s production is always interesting. This is someone really committed to making album music in a genre where the single is king, and I think he’s making some of his best, wildest tracks to date. New Slaves is such a great song, amazing lyrics.
